Open Access Fibre Optic Cable Speeds up Christchurch
Christchurch has one of the best open access fibre networks in New Zealand, capable of delivering almost unlimited bandwidth and connecting most business areas in the city. It is used by businesses of all sizes, the health industry, universities, municipalities and schools.
Enable Network's fibre is built to world class Telco standards, delivering high levels of reliability at very affordable rates. It offers many advantages to businesses including allowing them to connect at high speed to data hosting centres around Christchurch, high speed connection to ISPs, building low cost high performance IP voice & video networks, and very high speed connection of branch offices. Christchurch's fibre network enables businesses to connect to New Zealand and the rest of the world using world class, affordable broadband.
Enable Network fibre infrastructure currently covers 50% of all businesses, schools, and health entities in Christchurch City together with the tertiary organisations and 23 municipal sites.
The Schools Loop project alone will enable 70 schools to be connected to the network by May 2010, with 90% of all 176 Christchurch schools being connected by the end of 2010. At the same time it is expected that 90% of all health providers and 90% of all businesses with more than five staff will be within 50 metres of the network.
Infrastructure: Enable Networks
Enable Networks has around 100km of ultra-fast open access fibre optic cable network and announced in May 2009 a further $36 million would be invested to accelerate the rollout of this fibre network over the next two years.
